Kyouko looked up as the snow fell, shoving her hands deeper into her pocket. The jacket she wore did nothing to keep her warm, but she was nearly home. She kicked at the slushy piles of dirty snow. Soon they'd be buried under a layer of crisp, new snow. Her trip for the evening had been largely unsuccessful. She didn't have much time left. Of course, being reminded by the scenes around her didn't help much. She sighed. Why was it so hard?

She trudged along the streets, effortlessly dodging the other shoppers. On a whim, she ducked into a convenience store. The warmth hit her immediately as she crossed the threshold. She moved quickly, going for her usual pick-me-up. The bright red box beckoned to her. On a whim, she glanced at the other boxes, reminded of her lack of success. This wouldn't make her successful, but it would give her a treat to take home.

The bag was wrapped lightly around her left wrist as she fumbled with the packaging. It wasn't so easy trying to open the foil and dodge passersby. It also didn't help that her fingers were cold and she kept fumbling. Even so, the moment she finally placed the stick of rocky in her mouth was blissful, and kept her mind off of the cold.

By the time she'd reached home, she'd finished half the box, unable to resist the sweet temptation. She found the door unlocked and slipped inside. Slush quickly began melting into water as she placed her boots by the door. She was about ready to call out when she looked up. Someone wasn't paying close attention.

Kyouko tiptoed across the room until she stood directly behind the older girl. She quickly slipped her arms around the girl's waist and grinned. "Got ya!" she cried.

Mami jumped, but then smiled at Kyouko's child-like antics. "How was your trip?"

Immediately, Kyouko frowned. "Not what I wanted." It was clear that Mami wanted her to continue, but she didn't want to give away the reasons behind her trip. Instead, she held up the small bag. "I gotcha something though."

Mami turned around as Kyouko released her grasp. She smiled when Kyouko pulled the box from the bag. "Special winter edition. Chocolate and fudge and cocoa all in one." She almost didn't want to hand over the box.

She couldn't help but snicker as she watched Mami wrestle with the box, much as she had done earlier. She reached over and helped Mami to remove the packaging. Mami pulled one of the sticks from the bag and looked at it skeptically. Slowly, she took a bite and chewed, savoring the flavor. "It's delicious," she finally stated. "But still strange." She finished off the rest of the stick. "I can see why you eat so many of them in a week." She poked Kyouko's stomach.

"Hey are you implying—"

Mami cut her short. "No, but it would still be cute." She smiled softly. "Thank you."

"…I'm not pudgy!" retorted Kyouko, unable to return the thanks with "you're welcome". Mami would certainly pay for that later.
Some of you saw the journal I posted tonight about finding the Mami pic where she's throwing a Christmas party for just herself because everyone else is busy. It was heartbreaking and I didn't like it so I decided to try doing some holiday themed pieces featuring one of my favorite pairings. They're easier to do than Aaeru and Neviril when it comes to winter and the holidays.

Another one of your great Mami x Kyouko fics. Glad to see it, as you write very well, and write these two very well also.
